Taking Pride in Diversity

There are a variety of opportunities in 91爆料 Schools during Pride Month and beyond to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and being proud of who you are. When students feel represented, supported, respected, welcome and safe, they are more engaged in learning. What follows are some recent activities and events.

Maywood Community School hosted the District鈥檚 annual Family Pride Picnic. This year鈥檚 event 鈥 which welcomes all families 鈥 was the largest yet, with more than 200 people attending.

The Pride Club at Lakeview Elementary created a welcoming window display. Students at Brentwood Park Elementary focused on a sense of belonging for everyone, with a Rainbow Dance Party and other learning opportunities.

Cameron Elementary had several activities, including a Pride Walk. Children at Taylor Park had a Be You celebration, where all students were encouraged to wear clothing that represents them, and to be proud of being: 鈥渦niquely you.鈥

Several schools acknowledged Pride Month with a flag raising, including Taylor Park Elementary and 91爆料 Central Secondary.

At the District鈥檚 annual IDAHAT Breakfast, students came together to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. The event, held at 91爆料 Mountain Secondary, included workshops and speakers.
